I advanced another belt level in my studies, therefore, I felt this an appropriate repost (originally published 06.10.13).
Just
a quick note on the importance of balance and perseverance in life...
Quite possibly the most healthy choice I've made in the past two years
(or perhaps in my life) is to join Burbank Danzan Dojo. I have received
hands on instruction from 4th degree black belt, sensi Kimo Williams.
His patience and diligence on my behalf has been extraordinary. Also,
the other black belts at the dojo have been amazing at assisting me to
meet my belt qualification goals - and, every student in the dojo has
helped with my martial arts education by owning the idea that they are
responsible for my success. The study is Danzan Ryu Jujitsu .. Ryu
meaning family in this case. This weekly adventure on my behalf is
paying back in an exponential growth manner. Kimo's techniques have
brought me back to a more acute sense of balance, more flexibility
(albeit, anyone at the dojo might not think so, anyone who played
football with me back in the day would quickly realize I can actually
flex my wrist now.), better conditioning, and, most importantly, the
experience is placing a brilliant demand on my old brain bone - proving
conclusively, you can teach a somewhat older dog a new way to bark.
I
will not attempt to clarify Danzan Ryu for my readers (I will rather
add the dojo website URL to this page so anyone interested can better
understand what sensi Kimo does), however, I will say that it is a
martial art of distinction, since, you are expected to learn how to heal
as well as destroy your opponent. Personally, this art appears to
promote not only physical balance and conditioning, it also seems to
create a harmonious condition between the inner and outer person -
it's far, far, far from a fight club, which, is a good thing in my
mind. A delightful experience to date. And, although I have a
monumental way to go in this new learning... it is the share of the
week here on my blog.
If you want a great workout that
actually gains you a comprehensive system of self defense, and, you
happen to live in the Burbank or Los Angeles area... Well, I hope to
see you on the mat. I'm there Tuesday nights.. (I wish it could attend
more often.) The following is the opening blurb from Burbank Danzan
Dojo's website.
